MSU will see a certificate program in medical informatics

Being a modern educational institution means being in permanent motion. Mariupol State University keeps creating and opening new opportunities for its invincible family.

Instructors of System Analysis and Informational Technologies Chair, namely Hanna Martyniuk, Head of the Chair and Associate Professor Angelika Stahova went to Great Britain with a working visit to establish partnership with Oxford University. During the week, on March 15 – 22, they visited St. Edmund Hall College. MSU educators joined the World Summit concerned with medical systems. They also joined a workshop concerned with applied medical informatics; it was in the framework of that workshop that MSU instructors researched the opportunities of combining this specialization with the existing Master’s programs of Mariupol University.

In Europe and Great Britain Master’s programs in medical informatics are very popular. There is no specialization of the sort in Ukraine at all; however it is possible to partly introduce it into educational programs in the field of knowledge “Information Technologies,

— said Hanna Martyniuk, Head of the Chair.

Together with Oxford colleagues, MSU educators managed to design the program of a two-day long course in artificial intelligence in the medical field as well as an elective Master’s certificate course amounting to 24 ECTS credits. The course will contain internal academic mobility: some of the disciplines will be taught by instructors of Kyiv Aviation Institute, whereas others will be taught by instructors of Mariupol University.

We have designed a unique program. Absolutely all the students seeking their Master’s degrees from our university will be able to elect the certificate course in medical informatics. It will contain modules in artificial intelligence, computer networks, system analysis, and cybersecurity. What is essential is that all these disciplines will focus on work with medical data from the beginning, their analysis and processing standards. As early as at the beginning of next year, students will be able to start learning under this program,
