A student of Mariupol State University became a participant of a language school in Cyprus
Improving language skills, immersing herself in a new culture and meeting like-minded people from different parts of the world - all this is the educational journey of Vlada Matvienko from the speciality "Modern Greek Language and Literature, English Language, Translation" of Mariupol State University.
The girl was lucky enough to be one of ten Hellenistic students who received a scholarship to attend the School of Modern Greek at the University of Cyprus this year.
The training lasted from July to August. The focus was precisely on the development of Modern Greek: the ability to write, speak and understand the spoken language. Daily lessons led by teachers from the University of Cyprus enabled Vlada to master the language at A2 level.
In addition to the lessons in the classroom, the school participants were also given guided tours of the sights and museums of Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus. This also helped to improve their language skills, as they learnt about the history and culture in Modern Greek.
Although most of the time was devoted to studying, the Hellenists visited many cities together. In each place, they tasted the traditional cuisine, talked to the people and learnt more about the local culture.
