Saarland University Professor honored with MSU Ambassador Title

From the first days of the full-scale invasion and forced relocation, the community of Mariupol State University has felt the support of its European colleagues, support that strengthens faith in victory and hope for a better future. This support has been particularly evident from partners within the Transform4Europe European University Alliance, which welcomed the university with its Mariupol identity into their academic family.

On September 10, Professor Dominik Brodowski, Vice President for Internationalization and European Relations at Saarland University (Germany), visited the MSU front office in Ukraine’s capital. His visit was not only a valuable opportunity to show the daily life of lecturers and students in their new environment and to present ambitious plans, but also a chance to recognize deeds that are helping the resilient institution continue to grow.
According to the decision of the Academic Council, for significant contribution to supporting the university, promoting its values, strengthening international cooperation, and enhancing MSU’s positive image in Ukraine and abroad, Dominik Brodowski was awarded the title of MSU Ambassador. The official ceremony was led by Rector Mykola Trofymenko.

As a member of the governing committee of the Transform4Europe Alliance, Professor Brodowski responded to the challenges the university faced during relocation and became one of the initiators of projects aimed at supporting the institution, including the community’s aspiration to remain part of the European educational and research space and to preserve the truth about the tragic events in Mariupol.

Dominik Brodowski is a leading expert in the digitalization of criminal law and criminal procedure. His knowledge and experience will be valuable in documenting evidence of war crimes committed by Russia against civilians in Mariupol within the framework of Mariupol Justice, an international human rights platform jointly founded by Mariupol State University and the Mariupol City Council.

It is a great honor for me to be here, to feel this university, the spirit of Mariupol, this resilience and responsibility. The entire Alliance understands that you are our partners, and that Ukraine means a great deal to Europe. Therefore, it is important to preserve and expand our initiatives and strengthen the ties between Ukrainian and European education,

— notes Dominik Brodowski, Vice President of Saarland University.
