Politics in Times of Change: MSU Lecturers Attend International Conference in Poland

Academic spaces of European universities are becoming increasingly accessible for lecturers from Mariupol State University. This autumn, the community of the invincible is actively visiting partner educational institutions.

At the invitation of colleagues from the University of Silesia in Katowice, MSU educators took part in the international conference “The Limits of Stability and Unpredictability: Politics in Times of Change” on October 9–10. The working trip to Poland was undertaken by Maksym Bulyk, Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations, and Tetiana Ivanets, Head of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology.

The scholarly event served as a platform to discuss pressing issues faced by researchers and practitioners. It also became an important part of the celebration of the Institute of Political Science’s 50th anniversary  at the University of Silesia.

The visit gained new meaning in terms of drawing on the experience of European universities striving to implement joint research projects in political science and international relations. Particularly memorable was the warm, family-like celebration of the Institute’s anniversary, enriched by shared recollections of professors and alumni about significant events that had shaped the development of this remarkable institution,

– notes MSU Associate Professor Maksym Bulyk.

Taking the opportunity, the educators from Mariupol University discussed with partners from the Transform4Europe alliance the specifics of training higher education students in the “Political Science” specialty and joined a discussion on the prospects for the development of political science , including educational and research dimensions.

This was a unique opportunity not only to learn more about the main trends in training political science specialists at leading European universities, but also to exchange views with colleagues on the challenges and prospects facing political science today, as well as to explore opportunities for future joint research within the Transform4Europe alliance,

— says MSU Associate Professor Tetiana Ivanets.

Meanwhile, representatives of the invincible university also had the chance to get acquainted with the history and culture of Silesia. They were particularly impressed by a museum preserving exhibits that reflect the city through different stages of its existence.

And of course, I cannot fail to mention the Katowice museum, which impresses with its art gallery and completely new approach to creating themed exhibitions that immerse visitors in the history of Silesia and form a comprehensive understanding of its past and present,

– adds MSU Associate Professor Maksym Bulyk.
