MSU assistant professor starts grant project implementation with the University of Hull
Mariupol State University and its partner in the framework of the British-Ukrainian Twinning initiative, the University of Hull, held a solemn event «Beyond Displacement/Exile: Building a Future for Women Leaders in Academia». The event commenced the author's project of educators from both educational institutions.
With the British Council grant support, assistant professor of the Romance-Germanic Philology Department Natalya Marakhovska and senior lecturer from the School of Politics and International Studies Stella González-Arnal will work on the project realization.
The project «Fostering Women's Leadership in Ukrainian Academia, an Intersectional and Culturally Responsive Perspective» aims to increase the number of women in educational institutions' leadership and maintain gender equality in the academic and scientific sphere. The joint work deliverables will be an online professional development course for Mariupol University staff and an international workshop from the University of Hull with public involvement.
With the help of a telebridge, the solemn event brought together representatives not only from Ukraine and Great Britain, but also from Brazil, Greece, India, Canada, Germany, and the Czech
Republic, a total of about 50 interested parties. The participants discussed how the universities can support the academic staff and students who are immigrants and promote women's leadership in academic circles.
During the event, educators from the two friendly universities presented their work and practices that have positive impact on women's leadership, in particular, providing conditions for career development and conducting scientific research. In her speech, Natalia Marakhovska drew attention to the contribution of visual art to leadership, gender equality, and inclusiveness.
For her part, MSU Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Affairs Tetyana Marena outlined the steps the university had to take to preserve the university and its subsequent restoration starting from the first day of the full-scale invasion.
