Educational programs for which the department conducts training
learning and teaching
The Department of Romance and Germanic Philology effectively utilizes digital technologies and a student-oriented approach to ensure effective learning. The department is responsible for teaching students how to speak foreign languages from scratch. Professional training allows students to learn about various aspects of philology and translation to simulate various production situations (interpretation, artistic translation, translation of texts in an official-business style, artistic texts, etc.).

Students of the department have opportunities to participate in international academic mobility programs and internships abroad to improve the level of foreign language training, enrich learning experiences and communication with native speakers, and enhance competitiveness in the labour market during future employment. The department regularly invites practitioners and foreign colleagues from different parts of the world to teach or conduct master classes. The Italian Institute of Culture in Ukraine at the Embassy of the Italian Republic in Kyiv established an all-Ukrainian network, and the department collaborates with the Italian Cultural Center of Mariupol State University. Together with the center, students and teachers of the department popularize the study and dissemination of the Italian language and culture worldwide, have the opportunity to participate in all events of the Institute of Culture and the Embassy, and receive scholarships and grants.
research activities
The department works on the scientific topic "Development of the Italian Language, Literature, and Culture in the Historical and Modern Plane" (supervisor: PhD in Social Communications, Associate Professor H.V. Trifonova). In the course of work on the scientific topic, the typological features of the Italian language in comparison with Ukrainian were determined, and the science of translation was improved. Modern trends in the development of the Italian linguistic and literary environment were systematized, and modern methods of teaching Italian as a foreign language were analyzed and improved, taking into account domestic and foreign experience. The educational and methodological base for teaching the Italian language in institutions of higher education was improved, and the history of Ukrainian-Italian cooperation, including in the field of bilingual translation of fiction, was analyzed. The international cooperation of Mariupol State University with Italian partners was supported and developed. The teachers of the department have experience participating in international scientific projects, conferences, seminars, etc., during which they introduce foreign colleagues to the results of their own scientific research. Our teachers are invited by foreign educational institutions to give lectures and exchange experiences and results of innovative activities.
