MSU graduate completes internship at the British edition of The Daily Mail

Graduates of Mariupol State University acquire relevant skills and apply them in various fields. Daria Cherednichenko, a Bachelor's graduate of the "Journalism and Social Communication" degree programme, had the opportunity to work in the editorial office of The Mail on Sunday - the Sunday edition of the British newspaper The Daily Mail.

During her internship in the London office, the girl immersed herself completely in the work of a journalist. She produced material independently, helped colleagues to find and verify information and travelled to the locations.

Although the scale of the medium scared me a little at first, I really enjoyed the challenge. I still can't believe that my first internship was at one of the UK's biggest newspapers. Being in London, at the centre of the action, is no longer a dream but definitely a goal. The only thing that was difficult at the beginning was to accept that few people were interested in you as a beginner in such media. Hundreds of journalists work simultaneously in one room. Everyone around is busy with their tasks and does not pay as much attention as we are used to receiving at the university,

– says Darya Cherednichenko, a graduate of MSU.

Daria's main task was to interview Olena Kurylo, a Ukrainian woman who was seriously injured during the large-scale invasion and whose photo flew through the columns of foreign publications. Two years ago, the team and Mail on Sunday readers had raised money for the woman's treatment and organised her arrival in London. In her article, the MSU graduate tells how Olena's life changed after her rehabilitation and return to Ukraine and how people live in the frontline areas.

In addition to the interviews, Daria also worked on an article about the royal family. To do this, she visited the Royal Gallery, where she checked out rumours about the lack of photos of Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their children.

After completing the internship, the girl plans to look for similar opportunities in Scotland, where she currently lives. Later, Daria would like to return to London and achieve her goal.
