Breaking Barriers. MSU to Implement SPARK Project

Starting September 1, Mariupol University educators will join an ambitious European initiative aimed at transforming approaches to education and communication in environments that often remain outside public attention, namely, correctional institutions.

The Erasmus+ project “Supporting Access to Knowledge and Rights” SPARK focuses on overcoming linguistic and cultural barriers. The initiative will involve not only students and academic community but also professionals who work directly in such settings, namely, translators, mediators, psychologists, social employees, and penitentiary service staff.

Key objectives of the project include establishing a sustainable European partnership, developing a modular open-access training course adapted to various contexts, compiling a multilingual glossary of terms relevant to work in multicultural environments, and preparing methodological guidelines for educators working in higher education and with individuals in conditions of restricted freedom.

The expected outcome is the formation of a new quality of communication in complex sociocultural settings. Participation in the project will allow students and professionals to acquire unique skills for working in multicultural environments.

Alongside Mariupol University, the international initiative will be implemented by a consortium comprising the University of Genoa, San Marcellino Association (Italy), the University of Alcalá, the Abrazando Ilusiones Foundation (Spain), the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences, and the Association of Researchers of European Values in Education.
