Mariupol State University held a training course for academic managers under the professional development programme

In early April, an ambitious initiative will start, the Professional Development Program for Academic Managers, implemented as part of the joint project of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the World Bank ‘Improving Higher Education in Ukraine for Results’. But before the course for the universities’ representatives of the unconquered country begins, it is crucial to instruct trainers. The MSU facilities served as a platform for acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills.

The MSU members of the academic community, who have already had the experience to work with communities, participate in the program as trainers. Among them are Rector Mykola Trofymenko, Vice-Rectors Tetiana Marena, Anzhelika Doshchyk, Yulia Demydova, Deans Svitlana Kalinina and Lenina Zadorozhnaya-Knyagnitskaya, Professors Larysa Shaulska and Andriy Stoyka, Associate Professors Olena Pedchenko, Anna Martyniuk, Anastasia Trofymenko, and Inna Arakelova.

The training took place from 14 to 22 March in four modules: ‘The Role of the University in the Context of Social Transformations’, ‘Strategizing in the Face of Uncertainty’, ‘Human Resources

Management’, and ‘Finance, Resources, Projects’. The events were moderated by Svitlana Kalashnikova, Advisor to the Directorate of the Institute of Higher Education of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine.

The future trainers learned about general principles and rules of training, and received teaching guidelines to ensure interactivity and practicality. Mykhailo Vynnytskyi, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, who will also be speaking to Ukrainian educators as part of the development program, also had a productive conversation with the participants.

Very soon, the representatives of academic communities will start a course to improve their professional competencies. The trainings will take place over 11 weeks simultaneously in three cities: Kyiv (at Mariupol State University), Lviv (at the Ukrainian Catholic University) and Dnipro (at the National Technical University ‘Dnipro Polytechnic’).
