On Ukrainian archaeology from Mariupol State University for Slovak experts
Vyacheslav Zabavin, Associate Professor of the Department of History and Archaeology of Mariupol State University, gave a public lecture on the "Archaeological Heritage of Ukraine: Challenges of Modern War". The public event was initiated by the regional leadership of the Rotary International Club of Nitra (Slovakia) with the support of the Institute of Archaeology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
The MSU lecturer familiarised the audience in detail with the archaeological heritage of the unconquered country using the example of the North Azov region, considered one of the richest archaeological sites.
During the lecture, Vyacheslav Zabavin focused on the challenges caused by the modern Russian-Ukrainian war. As the scientist noted, the archaeological sites of the eastern regions were the first to feel the destructive force of enemy aggression. The Museum of History and Archaeology of the Mariupol University was one of the places that housed the archaeological collections of the North Azov region, destroyed due to a full-scale invasion.
Considering the current state of Ukrainian historical and cultural heritage, the MSU lecturer plans to continue raising the awareness of international communities.
