On the way to fulfilling a public mission: MSU educators learn British practices
As part of the British Council grant, a delegation from Mariupol State University paid a study visit to its strategic partner, the University of Hull.
On November 18-22, Iryna Sikorska, Director of the Center for International Education, Nataliia Pyrlik, Dean of the Foreign Languages Department and Ostap Bodyk, Head of the English Philology Department, studied the experience of their colleagues in implementing the university-community model.
On behalf of the University of Hull, Hilary Layton, Executive Director of the Office of Global Strategy, Veronica Hurtado and Mary Ann Murdoch, Managers of the Office of Global Strategy, and Catherine Wynne, Deputy Dean for Research and Enterprise at the Faculty of Arts, Culture and Education created favourable conditions for effective and productive communication.
During the visit, the invincible community met with educators from various departments of the UK university and invited specialists, including representatives of the Migration Yorkshire agency, to ensure an interdisciplinary approach to the community project implementation.
The MSU team learned about the British partner strategy aimed at maintaining ties with communities as well as fulfilling the social mission of the educational institution. Its adaptation will help in strengthening the positive impact of Mariupol University on community development.
Following the British experience, it is planned to integrate the topics of post-traumatic stress disorder, mental health and resilience into the curriculum of the Invincible University to better prepare specialists to work with people who have experienced traumatic events.
During the meeting, the participants focused on methods and research approaches that will allow for a deeper understanding of the needs of Mariupol residents who have been forced to relocate to the UK. Together with British colleagues, a research base will be created for further analysis and development of new approaches to interaction with communities.
