MSU accepted the academic award on behalf of the scientific community of Ukraine
Every year, Scholars at Risk (SAR), an international network of academic institutions, honours scholars from around the world who have made exemplary efforts to protect and promote academic freedom.
In 2024, the "Courage to Think" award honoured academics from Ukraine for their courage, resilience and unwavering commitment to education and science despite the war. It is significant that Mariupol State University, as a centre of invincible and strong-willed people, received the award on behalf of the entire Ukrainian academic community.
The ceremony took place on 26 June at the SAR World Congress in Vilnius, where Kateryna Horyunova, Associate Professor of the Department of Marketing and Tourism, received the award. The scientist lives in Lithuania and coordinates the MSU Centre at Vytautas Magnus University.
In her speech during the ceremony, the invincible university lecturer emphasised that the "Courage to Think" award is a tribute to scientists who demonstrate their resilience every day. On behalf of all Ukrainians, she thanked them for their support and emphasised that unity and solidarity are a force enabling us to act as a whole scientific community.
On the occasion of the awarding, the University World News journalist spoke with Ukrainian academic staff, including the rector of Mariupol University Mykola Trofymenko. You can familiarise yourself with the material on the website of the media resource.
