Department of Practical Psychology
The Department of Practical Psychology was established in 1995 and is a structural subdivision of the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy at Mariupol State University.
The scientific and pedagogical staff of the department provide training in two specialties: 053 "Practical Psychology" and 231 "Social Work". Students in higher education can acquire knowledge and professional skills at the "Bachelor" level in specialties 053 "Practical Psychology" and 231 "Social Work," and also achieve the second (master’s) level of higher education under the educational and professional program "Practical Psychology" in the field of knowledge 05 "Social and Behavioural Sciences." Future practical psychologists receive the necessary competencies for work in crisis situations, knowledge in the fields of trauma psychology and rehabilitation psychology, and practical skills for working in everyday special and extreme conditions, contributing to the optimization of the activities of specialists in risky professions, the restoration of mental and somatic health, and psychological well-being, lost as a result of experiencing extraordinary events. The educational activity of the department is carried out both in full-time and extramural forms of education.
The purpose of the department’s activity is to train highly qualified, competitive specialists, ready for innovative professional activity, in accordance with European standards based on the principles of international mobility, creativity, and academic integrity. They possess professional competencies and technologies in the field of practical psychology and social work, are aware of their professional importance in the system of socio-political and economic relations, take into account social consequences, work with and for people, and consider the principles of protection and social transformations of the Ukrainian public.
The department provides:
Creation of conditions for the implementation of effective educational, research, and creative activities of higher education seekers.
Improvement of the educational and methodical base of disciplines taught by the department.
Introduction of scientifically proven technologies and methods in the fields of psychology and social work into teaching practice.
Improvement of the qualifications of scientific and pedagogical workers due to their participation in certified international internship programs and training.
The development of cooperation with stakeholders to take into account the quality parameters of the training of future psychologists and social workers in accordance with the requirements of the labour market.
Leading specialists in the fields of practical psychology and social work are involved in teaching at the department. Their practical training, as well as the joint involvement of both students and teachers in projects of various levels will facilitate improving the practical skills of education seekers.
On the basis of the Department of Practical Psychology, there is a psychological laboratory called "Image and Quality of Life of an Individual in the Process of Professional Development," the heads of which are two members of the Department of Practical Psychology: Associate Professor O.B. Stulika and Senior Teacher O.I. Revyakina.
The laboratory has introduced psychological pieces of training and webinars, to which experts in practical psychology from various branches of psychological science are invited. Just last year, webinars were organized for education seekers on the following topics: "Professional qualities of a crisis psychologist (what you need to know and know how to preserve your own resources)," "Peculiarities of a psychologist’s work with elderly people," "Undetermined loss is an urgent problem of today’s Ukraine," "Crisis counselling: necessary knowledge, professional challenges, and opportunities," a master class on special child psychology on the topic "Features of the development of a modern child in the age of digital technologies," "Methods of art therapy at the stage of post-crisis recovery," and many other events.
Graduates of the department demonstrate their ability to become leaders of change, acquire skills in critical thinking, creative self-improvement, and understanding the specifics of the work of a practical psychologist with different groups of clients.
Employees of the department have publications in Ukrainian periodicals, and together with Ukrainian and foreign scientists, they carry out research, which is placed and indexed by scientific databases such as Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, etc.
The results of the scientific activity of the teachers in the Department of Practical Psychology are reflected in scientific publications of such a level as monographs, textbooks, and scientific and methodological manuals. The result of the department’s methodical work is the development of lecture courses, workshops, textbooks, etc.
Joint scientific works of teachers and awardees are published in publications of various levels, particularly in the annual university and faculty collections of MSU.

This certificate is valued at 12 hours of CPD, earned by submitting evidence of learning on each presentation (O.B. Stulika), Jagiellonian University, and Warsaw School of Economics (Poland). Graduates of the Department of Practical Psychology participate every year in academic mobility programs at various universities in European countries, particularly at the University of Genoa (Italy) and the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic), which are partners of Mariupol State University.
