Department of History and Archaeology
Кафедра історії та археології є провідним осередком історичних та археологічних досліджень в університеті. Вона забезпечує підготовку фахівців за освітніми програмами зі спеціальностей «Історія та археологія», «Середня освіта. Історія».
Кафедра проводить наукові дослідження з історії Північного Приазов’я, починаючи від стародавніх часів до сучасності. Викладачі кафедри беруть участь в археологічній експедиції МДУ як в Україні, так і за кордоном. Кафедра тісно співпрацює з музеями, архівами, загальноосвітніми та науковими установами.
Випускники кафедри успішно здобувають наукові ступені та працюють за фахом в освітніх і наукових установах України та за її межами.

At the beginning of the Mariupol Humanitarian College’s activities on September 1, 1991, the Department of Historical and Pedagogical Disciplines was opened. From 1991 to 1997, it was reorganized, resulting in the establishment of the Department of Historical Disciplines (1997). Since September 1, 2021, the Department of Historical Disciplines was renamed the Department of History and Archaeology. Currently, the department has 8 teachers with academic degrees. The department creates conditions for scientific and creative activities of participants in the educational process.
The Department of History and Archaeology prepares specialists for the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education in the specialties 032 History and Archaeology according to the educational program "History" and 014.03 Secondary Education. History according to the educational program "Secondary Education. History". The department also provides training for the second (master’s) level of higher education in these specialties.
The distance learning process takes place on the Educational Portal of MSU, on Zoom and Google Meet platforms. Today, every our student is provided with the necessary educational, methodological, and scientific literature, periodicals, including works by department teachers.
Students have the opportunity to participate in an archaeological expedition of MSU, which maximizes their knowledge and practical skills.
Since 2016, a graduate school has been opened in the specialty 032 History and Archaeology; training is carried out according to the educational and scientific program for Doctor of Philosophy. The scientific and pedagogical workers of the department participate in the work of the specialized academic council of MSU (established on May 10, 2017) for defending dissertations for candidates of historical sciences in the specialty 07.00.01 - History of Ukraine. Since 2017, training of doctors of historical sciences is carried out in the graduate school in the specialty 032 History and Archaeology.

Teachers of the Department of History and Archaeology actively participate in research activities. We have a scientific school on the history of Ukraine under the guidance of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Romantsov. Within its framework, comprehensive scientific topics of the department were developed:
2013-2016 "Current problems of historiography of the history of Ukraine" (state registration number 0112U005930). Supervisor - Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Mykolayovych Romantsov.
2018-2021 "Current problems of the history of Ukraine. Modern vision" (state registration 0118U003556). Supervisor Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Mykolayovych Romantsov.
2022-2026 "Current problems of regional history of Ukraine: modern discourse" (state registration number 0122U201693). Supervisor - Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Mykolayovych Romantsov.
The department holds an annual All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference "Ukraine in the World Historical Space", which is attended by students, graduate students, young scientists, and teachers of Ukrainian universities, as well as scientists from European Union countries (Poland, Lithuania, Slovenia).
In 2011, the scientific "Bulletin of MDU. Series: History. Political Science" was founded, which is included in the international database "Index Copernicus International" (Poland) and has the status of a professional publication in the field of history.
The department also has two student scientific societies: the Historical and Archaeological Society (led by Associate Professors Svitlana Arabadzhi and Viacheslav Zabavin) and the Historical and Local Society "History of Nadazovia" (led by Associate Professors Vadym Korobka and Yulia Korobka).
