MSU Collaborates with Donors to Implement Projects for Student Campus and University Village

Mariupol State University welcomed a delegation from the World Bank, among its members are Shiro Nakata, Team Leader of the Ukraine Improving Higher Education for Results Project (UIHERP); Enrique Alasino, World Bank Education Portfolio Coordinator in Ukraine; and Serhii Artemenko, Head of the UIHERP Implementation Team. Accompanying them was Mykhailo Vynnytskyi, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.

As per tradition, those visiting MSU for the first time are treated to a tour. Representing the academic community, Rector Mykola Trofymenko and Director of the Center for International Education Iryna Sikorska greeted the guests. They showcased the educational space, which, after the university’s relocation, has been transformed into one of the most modern in the country, featuring laboratories unparalleled in Ukraine.

The university’s rapid adaptation to new conditions, its entrepreneurial spirit, and support from friends and partners have made it possible to create a modern, pro-European educational environment. Here, not only are students trained as professionals, but initiatives are launched that contribute to the development of communities and the nation.

During the business meeting, Mykola Trofymenko shared with Shiro Nakata the dream of the Mariupol University community – the project “Unbreakable Campus of the Invincible University.” The initiative envisions the construction of a modern, inclusive academic campus, which would be a unique model in Ukraine. Additionally, the rector presented another initiative: the MSU Village, a residential hub for educators and their families in the Kotsiubynske territorial community. MSU is currently holding negotiations and seeking partners to support these ambitious ideas, which have already attracted interest from the Japanese company Panasonic.

A key part of the visit was a meeting with participants of the Academic Management Professional Development Program, implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in partnership with the British Council and leading Ukrainian universities, with financial support from the World Bank. Shiro Nakata spoke about global higher education, its mission, and teaching approaches, after which the session continued in a question-and-answer format.
